  • November 2nd Shoot

Again I ended up with more than 90 images...MAD!
Also digital gives me freedom, I decided I can manipolate my images as I want, mostly I end up taking away bits - check out my retouched Gurski picture.

  • Orford on Thursday 10th Nov.

Besides the usual transport problems that involved raising my voice over the phone to the Gemini Travel representative that was telling me that the 10.10am bus to Orford had gone past the bus station, while I had been standing there since 9,20am and no bus had come.
Finally at around 11,35 I get to Orford, where I quickly realise that YES, checking the National Trust website for the ferry to Orfordness would have been a good idea. No ferry until the 29th of March, if I read the sign correctly! And the advertised boats take you just for a ‘round’ cruise and don’t actually dock at Orfordness. Oh well, that’s the first failure – at least as I am carrying a digital camera I can’t run out of film – that is usually my trademark.

So first I start taking close-up pictures of the wooden shacks and boats, definitely NOT my style, but I cannot contemplate going back with no images, as just getting here took me 5 hours (since getting out of bed).
Then I decide to take the path that runs parallel to the coast and see if I can come up with something.
I can see the Pagodas and some of the other buildings, but from this shore it looks to cluttered, so I concentrate on the path the near-coast.

    RESULTS:
I took an amazing amount of pictures, around 60, that’s incredible for my standards. Normally I believe I wouldn’t have taken more than 15. It must be that I am not confident of what I am framing at all, I really cannot get used to the small screen and the fact that I am holding the (so small and light) camera away from the eye. I guess I could have used the viewfinder but I didn’t even realised it was there!
Most of the interesting pictures I took at least 3 or 4 times, just to make sure I had the shot.

Camera shake on all the close-up ones, weird.

I still have to learn how to work with the light meter – some images of dark subjects were automatically turned so light by the camera that the colours went haywire.

The format (size) of the images look strange, I was expecting them to be the same sizes of 35mm negs, instead they are much more square. Another thing I don’t like.

I have produced at least 3 good pictures.
    I got VERY, VERY cold.
I have taken a few pictures ‘just for fun’, but I am not sure if I am happy with them or not.
